Founded in 1681, Bristol Borough is nestled along the picturesque Delaware River, which is among the city’s greatest assets, and midway between Philadelphia and New York. The self-described “gritty” town benefits from an East Coast resiliency but is also home to incredibly caring, hospitable residents and leaders with an energy that’s pushing the town into the future.

“When the mills closed, the jobs left, and the malls happened to come up at the same time, and this town went into a deep sleep.”
– Bill Pezza, Chairperson, Raising the Bar

Bristol Borough’s history closely parallels the economic, commercial, and industrial history of the United States. In the late ’60s, U.S. Steel Corporation closed their facilities just up the road and thousands of employees lost their jobs. In turn, downtown Bristol Borough lost an incredible amount of traffic. But what the people didn’t lose was their passionate desire to improve the town, restoring its former glory with an eye to an even better future.

“We have a lot of challenges that we have to address but the people here have a passionate desire to change this town and I think that’s what makes us different than others.”
– Bill Pezza

Home to the country’s oldest consistently running inn, Bristol Borough’s rich history is apparent all over town. Now, it’s all about attracting more people to what Bristol Borough calls the “best undiscovered treasure in the United States.”
