Small businesses love small towns, and vice versa

It sounds idyllic, opening a little shop of your own in a small town. You would serve your neighbors, choose your own path and be your own boss. The reality doesn’t always match those lovely words, and I would definitely miss the anonymity of city living, but the small business owners we talked to on the Top 10 Town Tour resoundingly loved the small-town life.

An End That is Just the Beginning for Searcy

As our team headed to Searcy, Arkansas for the final week of intense filming for Season 4 of Small Business Revolution – Main Street, we were met with a mix of emotions. We put out the call for nominations, sift through entries, pick a Top 20, learn as much as we can from them in a short amount of time, then narrow it to a Top 10. Those Top 10 work incredibly hard to plan 24 hours for our team in their towns to learn as much as we can about their businesses, their community, their people. From those visits, we have the tough job of narrowing it down to five towns, or in the case of this year, six.

Why We Shop Local

This time of the year, so much emphasis is placed on where we shop. We are bombarded by Black Friday and Cyber Monday and shop small on Saturday. There are just so many places to put our dollars. But as a champion for small businesses, Deluxe encourages employees to take a day off of work to spend locally.

More Than Just a Grooming Expert

Sometimes, all it takes is someone in the same business to give you the reassurance that you’re doing it right. And when Jennifer Bishop-Jenkins met Alicia Jeffreys, she did just that.

Jennifer is an International Certified Master Dog Groomer and runs Love Fur Dogs in Glencoe, Illinois, which was recently named as one of the top pet grooming salons in the Chicago area. With almost four decades of experience as a pet professional, her opinion of Alicia’s business, Shampooches, in Alton, Illinois mattered.
