Small business stories are even more compelling than we thought

We live in a world where storytelling has long been part of our culture. It is the reason we share stories around the campfire or read books to our children at night. It is the reason we escape by going to the movies or binge watching our favorite show. Sometimes, words and pictures and video can’t do justice to stories. Sometimes, just being able to sit and listen to a small business owner share their story can lead to incredibly inspiring moments.

Betting on small towns

Everyone loves an underdog. That time-worn statement still holds true, especially when referencing tiny Bristol Borough, in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. Like so many small, blue collar towns in America, this proud and once prosperous community fell on hard times when neighboring factories closed or drastically reduced their workforce, resulting in a downward spiral of investment and diminished confidence in the town’s future.

Writing a business plan before starting your business, what you need to know

Early on in Bristol’s first episode of Small Business Revolution – Main Street, 20 different small business owners were interviewed. We asked each one a series of questions about their business. Almost across the board, when we asked if they had a business plan when they started, the answer was: No! The entire Deluxe small business marketing team expected the opposite answer. Basically, a good rule of thumb is don’t start a business without a plan.
